Furniture upholstery in Woodland Hills

If you love a chair or have a sofa that fits your room just right, it may be worth reupholstering. We help you compare fabrics and work with an upholstery specialist to price the changes you have in mind.

Beige sofa with black piping and a blue cushion.

Keep what you love about the piece.

The reason to reupholster is often something a replacement would be hard to offer: a familiar seat, a well-made frame or dimensions chosen for a particular room. New fabric can change the appearance while giving you a way to keep those qualities.

John is straightforward about the cost. Reupholstery can cost as much as new furniture, or more. We discuss that early, then look at the condition of the piece, the work you have in mind and what makes it worth keeping to you.

A piece with a history

A family chair or a sofa you’ve lived with for years can have value beyond its purchase price. Tell us what you want to preserve and what you’d like to change.

A size that fits your room

A custom sofa or sectional may work in a corner or layout that is difficult to furnish again. Its proportions can be a good reason to explore new upholstery.

A frame worth considering

A sound frame may be worth keeping even when the fabric is worn. Our upholstery specialist can assess its condition and the work needed.

From the first photos to your upholstery quote.

Start by showing us the furniture and telling us what you have in mind. Photos of the whole piece and any worn areas help us understand its shape and condition. It’s also useful to know what you like about it and your general budget.

From there, we can arrange a visit with fabric samples, take measurements and photograph the details. Seeing the furniture in its room helps with decisions about color, pattern and how the new fabric will relate to the rest of the space.

John shares the photos, measurements and proposed work with an upholstery specialist. Once the specialist has assessed the project, we prepare a quote for you to consider. You can weigh the work and cost against buying a different piece.

Upholstery before and after

New purple fabric and black-and-white outer panels replace the worn burgundy upholstery. The chair keeps its tufted back and chrome frame.

Before

Before: high-back chair with worn burgundy upholstery and a chrome frame.

After

After: the chair reupholstered in purple fabric with zebra-patterned outer panels.

Choose the fabric for the way you live.

Color in your room.

Compare samples beside your flooring, walls and the furniture you plan to keep. A color that looks appealing on its own may feel different across a large sofa or next to a patterned rug.

Pattern and texture.

A plain fabric, a visible weave and a bold pattern give the same piece very different looks. We can talk through how you want the furniture to sit within the room, whether it should be a focal point or blend into the surroundings.

Everyday use.

Tell us how the furniture gets used, whether it’s a family sofa or a chair saved for guests. We’ll go through fabric samples with you and explain the care each one needs.

A different shape may be possible, too.

John has worked with an upholstery specialist to reshape arms or square off a back for a more contemporary look. The options depend on the frame and construction. Share your ideas and we’ll ask the specialist what would work for your piece.

Questions about furniture reupholstery

Ask John: (818) 884-5464
Is reupholstery less expensive than buying new furniture?

Not necessarily. It can cost as much as a new piece or more. The frame, custom size, comfort or sentimental value may make the work worthwhile. A quote lets you compare the cost with the reasons you want to keep the furniture.

Can you bring fabric samples to my home?

Yes. As part of the upholstery process, we can arrange a visit with samples, take photos and measure the furniture. Start by calling or emailing a few photos so we can talk about the piece and your plans.

Can the shape of a sofa or chair be changed?

Some changes may be possible, such as adjusting an arm or the appearance of a back. The upholstery specialist needs to assess the frame and proposed work before we can confirm what is suitable.

Who carries out the upholstery work?

John works with an upholstery specialist who carries out the reupholstery. We help you choose the fabric and handle the measurements, photos and quote.

Do I need to know which fabric I want before contacting you?

No. You can start with the furniture and an idea of how you’d like the room to feel. Inspiration photos are helpful if you have them, and we can compare samples together.
