Free in-home consultation & measuring

We come to your home with window treatment samples, take measurements and help you work through the choices in the rooms you’re furnishing. The consultation is free, whether you’re starting with one window or planning several rooms.

Compare the samples beside your own windows.

A fabric can look quite different beside your own windows. During the visit, you can compare it with the wall color, hold a finish next to existing woodwork and see how the material looks in the room’s daylight.

The visit also gives us a chance to understand what you want to change. Afternoon sun may be catching a television screen, a front room may need more privacy, or the windows may feel unfinished. We start with the way you use the room and work through the treatments that suit it.

Light and privacy

We’ll ask when the room is used and how much daylight you want to keep. A bedroom, home office and street-facing living room can call for different fabrics, linings or levels of coverage.

Style and materials

A woven texture, a tailored roller shade and soft drapery each change the room in a different way. Compare color, texture and finish with the furnishings you already have.

Everyday control

Consider the windows you adjust each day and the ones that are hard to reach. We can explain manual and compatible motorized options while you’re comparing styles, so you can choose how you’d like to operate them.

Measuring is included in the home visit.

We take the measurements for your project and look at the details around the opening: its depth, the trim, handles and nearby space. Those details help determine where a blind, shade or shutter can sit and how it will operate.

For drapery, the arrangement extends beyond the glass. We look at the position and span of the rod or track, how far the fabric will extend and where the panels will rest when open.

When you’re considering several windows together, we also look at how the treatments will relate to one another. You get help with the overall arrangement as well as the measurements for each opening.

From the samples to your quote.

Talk through the budget.

Your budget is part of the conversation. We compare treatment styles, materials and operating options, and explain how those choices affect the quote. If you’re considering one room now and others later, we can discuss the rooms you want to focus on.

Plan the complete treatment.

We’ll explain the hardware, controls and installation involved with each option. That helps you compare the full cost of the treatments you’re considering.

Understand the next step.

With the measurements and selections in place, we can prepare your quote and discuss product availability and installation. If an item is delayed or goes on backorder, we keep you informed about what has changed.

One window is welcome.

Early in his career in upstate New York, John drove about an hour to a customer who needed a single mini blind for her bathroom. That small job led to a referral for a whole house of blinds.

He still welcomes the smaller projects. A bathroom window, one room of shades or a set of drapery is enough reason to get in touch.

It was a pleasure working with John Crawford Co. from ordering through installation. The process was seamless.

Questions about your in-home consultation

Ask John: (818) 884-5464
Is the in-home consultation free?

Yes. The free visit includes bringing samples to your home, discussing your windows and taking measurements for your project. Contact us to arrange a time.

Do I need to choose a product before we meet?

You can start with an idea, a few inspiration photos or something you want to change about the room. We’ll help you compare suitable treatments, materials and controls during the visit.

Should I measure the windows myself?

We take the measurements needed for your project. Photos and a description of the windows can help start the conversation, but you don’t need a set of measurements to request a consultation.

Can we discuss motorized shades during the visit?

Yes. Tell us which windows are difficult to reach and how you’d like to control the shades. We’ll review compatible products and controls, including any power or connection requirements that apply.

Can I visit the showroom instead?

Yes. Our Woodland Hills showroom is available by appointment for comparing materials and finishes in person. You can call or use the appointment inquiry form to request a visit.
